First International Workshop:
Bonn, Feb 19-21, 2009
The first international workshop on sexual violence in World War II will take place at the University of Bonn from February 19 to 21, 2009.
It is co-sponsored by the Northeast Asian History Foundation.
The Goals of the workshop are:
(1) Review the state of current research (facts and methods) on sexual violence in World War II in
(a) East Asia (focus: "comfort women" of the Japanese military);
(b) Europe (focus: military and concentration camp brothels of the German military);
(2) Review politics of memory and processes of reconciliation and recompensation in war-related issues (with focus on sexual violence) in
(a) the Japanese case;
(b) the German case;
(3) Identify meaningful research topics and tasks for joint comparative research from the perspectives of
(a) Gender history;
(b) Historical anthropology;
(c)History education.
The language of the workshop will be English.
